We launched our first Zoo Food for Life campaign in April 2020, to offset revenues lost during the Toronto Zoo’s temporary closure due to COVID-19. The $1 million annual cost of food for the animals at the Toronto Zoo is normally funded by paid guest parking and admissions, and the overwhelming response to the campaign meant we had guaranteed funds for food right through to the end of December 2020.

We re-launched Zoo Food for Life in January 2021, as public Zoo closures continued. It has since raised over $193,000.00.

Thousands of donors showed their support. Restaurants, wholesale food suppliers and others with food products reached out. Contractors waived invoices. Schoolchildren donated out of their piggy banks, posted videos on YouTube expressing their support and hosted their very own roadside fundraisers. Thank you all most sincerely!
