The Greater one-horned rhinoceros has a thick, dark-gray hide, that resembles a heavy plated armour coat and can weigh up to 2,200 kg. It has a single large horn, present in both sexes, that consists of keratin - a protein present in human hair and nails. The greater one-horned rhino is a vulnerable species, found in India and Nepal. Wild populations face a number of threats, including illegal poaching, climate change and severe weather as well as residential and commercial development.
