The Panamanian golden frog is a small, brightly-coloured frog that is native to western and central Panama. In recent years, Panamanian golden frog populations have been declining, and wild populations are now at severe risk of disappearing. In fact, this species may already be extinct in the wild. Successful captive-breeding programs are in place throughout Panama and North America, but no re-introductions will be made until existing threats can be addressed. Among others, these threats include: the illegal pet trade, deforestation, and habitat alteration by logging and farming related activities.

IUCN STATUS:
IUCN status: critically endangered
